Arabic Coffee Pot

Wednesday Evenings 6.30-8.30pm

This course is designed for complete beginners, and aims to help students acquire and develop basic Arabic language skills. During each session, students will be encouraged to use all four skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading).

The course runs for 20 weeks, 2 hours per week. 

The price of the course will be added during the registration process.

Students registered in 2016-17: £95
LU and LSU Staff, Alumni, Campus Partner Staff and Concessions (pensioners, job seekers etc) registered in 2016-17: £125
General Public registered in 2016-17: £155

Discount for anyone registered in 2016-17:£30 (already applied to the returner rates above). No more than one discount can be applied per year.

Any refunds should be requested in writing to languages@lboro.ac.uk by Friday 13th October at 4 pm. A £20 fee will be applied.

Course Description

By the end of the 20 weeks students will be expected to master the Arabic alphabet, read, pronounce and put letters together to form words. The tutor will focus on Classical Arabic, which is the formal language used by all Arabs and for signposts, maps, menus, newspapers and magazines. 

Some of the topics covered are:

Letters and Arabic numbers / Greetings and introductions / Food and drink / Clothing and colours /

Describing places and directions / Jobs

On completion students will be able to:

• Read and use Arabic numerals and letters

• Pronounce and articulate grammatically structured sentences

• Use nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs to converse in basic Arabic

• Have a general understanding of Arabic culture and people
