French 1 2017 - Beginner

This course is intended for complete beginners or those with very little knowledge of the language.  The aim is to reach a level of basic survival competence in a variety of situations. The emphasis is on oral communication and active participation. In class three skills are practised, i.e. speaking, listening and reading. 


The course runs for 20 weeks for 2 hours per week.  The price of the course will be added during the registration process.

French 2 2017 - Post Beginner

This course is intended for learners who have previously completed at least a 40 hour French course for beginners. The aim of this course is to reinforce and extend the language skills needed for more complex conversation in everyday situations. The emphasis is on oral communication and active participation. In class three skills are practised, i.e. speaking, listening and reading.

The course runs for 20 weeks for 2 hours per week.  The price of the course will be added during the registration process.

This course is for those who have done levels 1 & 2; it is also suitable for students with basic GCSE or very rusty O Level French, or who can communicate reasonably well and who wish to improve their fluency. Various areas of France will be studied, along with some aspects of French culture.

This course is intended for those who already have a good grasp of the language (good GCSE / 2-3 years study) and who are well motivated and prepared to work in their own time to consolidate their knowledge and progress to advanced language work. The aims of the course are to consolidate existing knowledge, extend range and complexity of vocabulary and grammar on most topics that are familiar or of personal interest and improve fluency. The emphasis is on conversation and active participation. 

The course runs for 20 weeks, 2 hours per week.

The price of the course will be added during the registration process.

French 6 2017 - Proficient

This course is intended for those who have studied the language recently for 5 years or more or who may have lived in a French speaking country and achieved a high level of proficiency, in particular in speaking and listening skills, and in reading articles in newspapers and magazines.  The standard will be of post ‘A’ level and will introduce greater linguistic sophistication and fluency to discussions. Extensive use will be made of French TV news broadcasts, newspapers and magazine articles, films, songs and cartoons as stimuli for well-argumented discussions in small groups or for the whole class. 

The course runs for 20 weeks, 2 hours per week. 

The price of the course will be added during the registration process.
