The Kremlin

Thursday Evenings 6.30-8.30pm

This course is designed for complete beginners and covers all the basic language you will need in everyday situations. The course aims at developing both speaking and comprehension skills, with the use of basic grammar. Class activities with the regular use of native speaking audio CDs and videos will encourage students to make good progress from the very start and make the most of learning Russian.

The course runs for 20 weeks, 2 hours per week.  The price of the course will be added during the registration process.

Course Description

The course starts with an introduction to the Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet, which is essential to the development of reading.

Speaking, comprehension skills and basic grammar are developed through interactive class activities that include regular use of native speaking audio CDs. The course also provides an insight into Russian traditions and culture.

Some of the topics covered are:

•           Introducing yourself, family members and friends

•           Ordering a drink in a bar or café

•           Reading a menu and ordering a meal in a restaurant

•           Navigating in a town (recognizing the names of different places, asking where and how far something is)

•           Going shopping (asking for items, understanding prices)

•           Booking a hotel room

•           Travelling  (going through customs control at the airport)

On completion of the course you will be able to:

•           read and understand Cyrillic script

•           demonstrate  speaking and comprehension skills in simple social situation

•           demonstrate   a general knowledge of Russian culture
