This course is for practising engineers and managers in industry and commerce who wish to understand the practicalities of mobile telecommunication systems, its constraints and ways that these constraints are countered.

Course Description

This course provides students with an appreciation of the complexities and issues associated with mobile communication systems.  It provides an understanding of the current and near future mobile telecommunication systems, tackles network design problems with reference to infrastructure, network capacity, security and geographical location.

It includes: 1 x CDMA2000, EDGE, GPRS, GSM, HSDPA, UMTS, LTE, WiMAX, Basic System Design, Network Planning, Network Operation, Cellular Systems. Multiple Access Techniques,  Efficient Spectrum Utilization.

Assessment: Assessment is by Exam.  If you wish, you may take the assessment and accumulate credits towards a postgraduate award.  This module is a component of MScs in Digital Communications, Mobile Communications and Networked Communications. 

A booking of at least 3 weeks prior to the short course start date is required if you wish to take the assessment.
