Course Description

All engineers know that taking a system apart to its component level destroys its properties and performance and that the specified system design dictates how the components behave when they are assembled correctly. Understanding this, engineers coax higher order system behaviour from basic interactions between components, learning lots along the way, often from unintended consequences. The sophisticated nature of today’s engineered systems, their ability to provide huge benefits and the associated risk of undesirable unintended consequences means that holism must now always be central to engineering throughout the lifecycle or the consequences must be faced.

Assessment: If you wish, you may take the assessment and accumulate credits towards a postgraduate award. Assessment is by Coursework. This module is a component of the MSc Systems Engineering.

A booking of at least 3 weeks prior to the short course start date is required if you wish to take the assessment.
