Classes are in-person.  However, students and staff with existing Loughborough University IT account – there is an option to follow online via dual delivery (on request).

20-week Japanese Level 1 course:

Semester 1 (weeks 2-11 term-time) from 11^th October to 13^th December 2023 (10 weeks). 

Semester 2 (weeks 1-10 term time) from 7^th February to 8^th May 2024 (10 weeks).

Expected class size is 12 to 18 participants. 

Open to anyone aged 18 years of age and over.

2:00pm- 3:50pm

Teaching comprises 2 x 50 minutes (with a 10-minute break in between) per week for 20 weeks.

Course Description

This course is designed for complete beginners or students with little knowledge of the language. 

The course covers a variety of everyday situations such as:

·       Introducing yourself and others

·       Telling times

·       Shopping

Class work emphasises on listening, speaking and practice of sentence structure; self study consists of reviewing work done in class and practising language skills, as advised by the tutor. Writing and reading Japanese letters (Kana) are basically left to your self-study, using the handouts provided and with tutor’s support.
